Places for People has thanked two school pupils for choosing the name of its new development in Shipdham, Norfolk.
As part of a naming competition, all pupils from Thomas Bullock Primary School were tasked by the housebuilder to come up with a suitable name for the development, which will consist of 103 homes. The two year-three pupils chose The Old Coal Yard, inspired by the original buildings and use of the site being the cold yard, which is now under construction.
To thank them for coming up with such a creative name for the new development, Places for People presented both with a £100 amazon voucher and donated £500 to the school.
The Old Coal Yard will launch in summer 2022, providing a range of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes. All the homes will be available for sale via Shared Ownership, providing local people with the opportunity to buy a high-quality family home without having to pay the full purchase price straight away.
Places for People’s Regional Head of Sales and Marketing for the South East, said: “We always want to look at new and exciting ways we can come up with development names, and involving local schools in this process is a great way of doing that.
“The Old Coal Yard seemed like the perfect name for our new development opening soon in Shipdham. We hope they will be able to look upon this development proudly once it opens in the summer, knowing that they helped contribute to a new bit of history for the local area.
“One of our aims at Places for People is Putting People First, so working in partnership with the local community to name the development is a really important project for us.”
The Old Coal Yard is perfectly located and provides easy access to good local amenities and the stunning north Norfolk coast, while Norwich – together with a main line rail link into London – is just 20 miles away.
Thomas Bullock CE Primary and Nursery School, part of the Diocese of Norwich Education Academies Trust, Headteacher Shannon O'Sullivan said: “Our pupils were delighted to take part in this competition. They had great fun coming up with the name and it was a fantastic opportunity for them to be a part of shaping the future of their community. We are grateful for the £500 donated to the school and have put it to good use by adding this to funds raised for a reading area for our new Nursery setting."
