From the seasonal delights of parks and woodlands to all the traditional fun of Halloween and Bonfire Night, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy family time this autumn.
Here are our top five…
This is the perfect time to take a brisk walk through nature to see what treasures you can find. Keep an eye out for feathers, conkers, leaves and pinecones, and have a contest to see who can find the most! Once you’re home, warm up with hot chocolate and put your autumn treasures to good use – our homes have all the space you need to get crafting or to challenge the kids to a game of conkers!
If you’d normally head to your local supermarket to pick your pumpkin, then think again! Pumpkin picking is where it’s at and at our well-located communities you shouldn’t have too far to venture to your nearest pumpkin field so prepare to make a day of it. Choose from different colours and sizes, and with handy wheelbarrows to help you carry them back to the car, kids will love picking their favourite. Some places even have carving activities too.
There’s lots going on in the run up to Halloween so check local listings for exciting events such as ghostly shows and haunted house tours. Prefer to get spooked at home? Places for People’s open-plan living areas leading into your own private outdoor space are ideal for treating friends and family to some scarily good fun – light the jack o’ lanterns, create an apple-bobbing corner and plan some spine-chilling games to get the party going!
Autumn is the season for nature projects and where better than in our local communities – with plenty of parks and countryside on your doorstep? Head out on a bat walk, have a go at sketching wildlife or try to guess the age of a hedgerow – add a century for each plant species! If hedgehogs pay you a visit, feed them meaty wet cat or dog food along with fresh water - never bread or milk.
By far the best way to enjoy Bonfire Night is an organised local display – they’re safer, there’s lots to see and do, and you and your family can enjoy the cosy glow of the bonfire as well as the thrill of rockets overhead. Remember to wrap up warm – feet can get just as cold as hands on autumn nights – and prepare a tasty chilli in the slow cooker beforehand to come home to.
Speaking of home, when you choose to buy with Places for People – you’re not just buying a spacious, comfortable place to live; you’re also putting down roots in a friendly community, with good schools and great amenities as well as local attractions and open green spaces to enjoy – a place where you and your family can flourish for years to come...
...whatever the season!
