This year, we’re looking forward to celebrating Christmas the way it should be – together with friends, family and loved ones – enjoying good times, great food and plenty of festive fun.

If yours is the designated party house, there’s no need to worry. With our 6-step guide to give you some pointers, we’ll help you to make Christmas 2021 your best yet!

1. Planning is key

If you haven’t already done it, now’s the time to invite friends and family over, book your Christmas supermarket slot and make lists of everything you’re going to need – from food and drink to party games, wrapping paper and advent calendars. It’s also when you should start thinking about gift ideas and posting the kids’ Santa letters off to the North Pole – or even making an NSPCC donation for Santa to write to them!

2. Grab a Black Friday/Cyber Monday bargain

Black Friday/Cyber Monday is the ideal time to buy gifts for Christmas and make some great savings too, especially for tech, which can be up to 50% cheaper at this time. Do your research beforehand to compare deals, sign up for email alerts from your favourite brands and keep an eye out for early-bird discounts. If you’re shopping online, consider picking up goods in store to save on delivery costs.

3. Deck the halls

A Places for People home has all the indoor and outdoor space you need for a spectacular display of Christmas decorations. Key colours this year are silver mixed with gold, while ‘asymmetrical’ and ‘sparse-looking’ Christmas trees – such as LED twig trees – are a popular look for contemporary new homes. Some looks are timeless however – a beautiful Christmas wreath or a stairway festooned with fairy lights…

4. Spread some goodwill

What will you do to give back this December? Whether it’s popping extra food items into your trolley to donate to a food bank or shopping for charity gifts and cards, there’s so much you can do to support others and your local community. Hospitals, the Salvation Army and homeless charity Crisis all welcome volunteers over the Christmas period.

5. Entertain in style

To be the host with the most, shop early for non-perishables and buy frozen where possible, so you’re not buying everything last minute. For a classy look, co-ordinate place settings, napkins and crackers, and rope the kids into helping craft a showstopper centrepiece out of holly and baubles. Our open-plan living areas are perfect for festive gatherings, while our statement kitchens will make entertaining a breeze.

6. Time to wrap up

As the big day draws near, it’s time for all those last-minute preparations before the guests arrive. If you’re lucky enough to own a Places for People home, this is when our spacious bedrooms and elegant bathrooms come into their own! For extra Christmas sparkle, place mini-poinsettias next to guest beds and in bathrooms, add bars of festive-themed soap.

Take a look at Places for People’s sparkling new homes and cosy communities to see how you could be celebrating Christmas and the new year in style.

With some wonderful festive offers available, it’s actually a great time to buy!
