Schools, sports, art; the social infrastructure story at The Square at Brooklands.
It was hugely important for us that a social infrastructure was created ahead of the homes at The Square at Brooklands. There's 50 hectares of green and open spaces as well as parks and community centres in which people can socialise. Alongside this we've built amenities that make life easier – primary and secondary schools, shops and a medical centre.
The entire local neighbourhood have been designed to such a standard that our green spaces have been highly commended by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and highlighted as best practice by Sport England’s Active Design guidance. All that rural appeal, yet still just minutes away from the M1.
Surrounded by such green space, The Square at Brooklands makes the utopian ‘village’ dream a reality for our residents; here, we run through some of the highlights of the neighborhood:
Our Community Sports Pavilion is a brand new facility serving the community, with recreational and sports facilities including exercise classes and health & fitness studios. The space can also be hired out for parties and events and it’s surrounded by a kids play area too.
…The Pavillion is also home to our very own team – Brooklands Pavillion FC; the squad plays locally in the Milton Keynes Sunday league. Show your true colours as a local resident and go and support them in their next game.
We’re thrilled to host some of local artist Walter Jacks Pass the Parcel works at Brooklands. This unique project involved half a mile of English Oak that has been on a transforming journey across the Eastern Expansion areas of Broughton and Brooklands, leaving a ‘parcel’ made of oak in different locations. A piece of sculpture left from the project can be found in our play park here at Brooklands.
There are two play areas in Brooklands Meadow Park – perfect for children young and old! The space features attractive, ornate bridges, wildflower areas and a brook.
Curious kids and animal admirers need look know further than Broughton Brook Park with its thriving wildlife population – you’re likely to see everything from hares, three different species of deer, foxes, badgers – and lots of birds on the lake too!
And if you’re more flora than fauna, you’ll find an array of wild flowers and trees here too.
A functional, substantial sheltering bund along the boundary with the M1 – providing shelter from easterly winds and traffic noise for residents of Brooklands, this beautiful space also forms a linear park, with more than 50,000 native trees and shrubs planted here.
And we’re still not done. There’s so much more to come here with new amenities (including food outlets, a gym, barbers and coffee shop all soon to be announced) as well as lots more green space coming too and in 2020 we’ll be creating resident allotments (a chance to grow your own!), plus, new recreation areas at Newsham Walk and Joseph Knibbs Park – the moniker a tribute to famous Milton Keynes clockmaker Joseph Knibbs.
